@0xtkgshn: But what about Google Fi for the future? @SoccerKinki: @0xtkgshn I used both Rakuten Mobile and Google Fi, but there are few places where Rakuten Mobile can be used in Argentina and South America. Google Fi was available even in South America, but recently I received a notification saying that I couldn't use it because I wasn't in the US. Now I'm using a random esim. But compared to the other two, it's a bit expensive. SoccerKinki.icon told me
If you're in Japan, it seems to switch to au roaming
(One was data roaming on Japan's au with Google Fi)

Don't see too many stories about how bad customer support is
Google Project Fi
A mobile phone service business started by Google in 2015.
Basic fee of $20 (basic unlimited calling, SMS, WiFi tethering, and international calling) + $10 per 1GB of data.
It seamlessly switches to the better of T-Mobile or Sprint depending on your current location. You can make calls over WiFi when it's available. Even if WiFi is disconnected, it will seamlessly switch to LTE.
It connects you to WiFi that is automatically fast using the large amount of WiFi location data collected by Google.
You can share your mobile phone number with other devices, so you can receive and make calls from your PC when you receive a call on your mobile phone.
Even when traveling abroad, international calling and data usage fees are very cheap (supports communication networks in over 120 countries). You can use it as is without any special procedures.
Family discounts available
Testimonials
"The number of compatible models has increased significantly. Even the iPhone is supported." (Shima Mar 2019)
"It's great that I can take it overseas, including Japan, and use it right away. The monthly fee is in the 30 dollar range." (Shima, Oct 2016) \n> \n> "I switched from AT&T but was able to easily transfer my number without changing it. The usage fee is also cheap, so I'm very satisfied." (Shima, Aug 2015) \n> Pittsburgh Convenient Book - Cell Phones\n\n> How to switch to another company without changing your mobile phone number (MNP) \n> Virgin Mobile → For Google Project Fi\n> \n> "For the procedure, I needed the account number and PIN of my old mobile phone as well as the MEID of the new one (although this may not be necessary). \n> \n> When setting up your new mobile phone, you need to enter your account number and PIN. Please note that the account number is not the same as your mobile phone number and you'll have to call Virgin Mobile to learn about it. \n> \n> When we called, we were told that we needed the MEID and that compatibility could not be guaranteed if we used another number. Despite this, we insisted that we wanted to switch from Virgin Mobile and eventually got through. We were transferred to the department in charge of account numbers, and when asked why we wanted to transfer, we stated our strong will to do so." \n\n\nIt cannot be applied for from Japan. \n\s It seems to support e-sim if you set it up using an app that can't be applied for from Japan. \n\s First, maybe it's better to make [⏹ your T-Mobile prepaid SIM phone number permanent while in NY?.
